September 14th to 20th

The sedum whilst it continues to attract much insect life seems this year not to be as attractive as normal to the butterflies. They seem to be keeping mainly to the buddlia which has a few flowers remaining. Last night the sedum had lots of earwigs on and today there were bees, this bluebottle and a ladybird. Meanwhile a shieldbug was discovered on a gladioli leaf and a forest bug on the rhubarb. I did not manage to catch the latter but here is a picture of the former.

Tuesday, 16th September and the weather continues sunny and warm although the evenings and mornings are beginning to feel a little more autumnal. The moths are from Sunday night when I found this blood-vein, Timandra griseata, on the front door, the garden carpet, Xanthorhoe fluctuata, in the kitchen and the moth to the right which I think is a Large Fruit-tree Tortrix,  Archips podana, on the back wall.

The nuthatch appeared again but this afternoon instead of at the regular 10.00 a.m.

This week has been busy with both meetings during the day and in the evening and therefore there has been very little time just to stop and stare. However last night, Wednesday, we were at the church and the outside lights attracted some moths. One settled where I could take it's picture so I did and this is the result. It is a Common Marbled Carpet, Chloroclysta truncata.
