Moths seen in the garden to date A-C, D-F, G-M, N-Si, Sh-the end

February 2006

As I sit at my desk in the early afternoon of 7th February there is a real spring feel in the air, the sky is blue and the sun is shining. On Sunday 5th there were two moths on the outside by the front  light and on Monday another appeared. The first two were a pale brindled beauty, phigalia pilosaria and a dotted border, agriopis marginaria, the third was a true herald of spring being a spring usher, Agriopis leucophaearia.

There have also been some very welcome visitors to the bird feeders over the past week. These were some siskins, a variety we have never seen in the garden before. I have therefore placed a picture of these delightful little birds with their beautiful delineated backs here.
