 December has begun
grey and dull. The shortest day is now not so far away and we can look
forward to the days lengthening once more. Meanwhile we are making
preparations for the Christmas season and the organizations in the village
have already begun celebrating with Christmas meals. On the first of the
month I took a photo of this ant ( I am assuming that is what it is). There
were several on the front door at night and they seemed to enjoy the rain.
The picture clicks open. This morning the missed photo opportunity was a
thrush in the flowering crab apple eating the last few fruits of this tree.
I help with a Christian club in our local school and the children and I
made a banner for the Christmas season last Friday that I finished off this
evening and will take into the school assembly tomorrow morning. This is the
finished result.

Once
again Friday has come around and I do not seem to have had time to do much.
There have been all sorts of activities this week what with school concerts,
a trip to Kings Lynn, Christmas shopping, and carols round the village
Christmas tree to look forward to this evening. With all this activity there
has not been so much time to simply stop and stare so the photography has
been somewhat limited. However I did manage one of this squirrel that managed
to defeat all our efforts to prevent him from eating the bird's food.
The
insects continue to come to light at night although they are not necessarily
the most inspiring, most nights see a winter moth and also a variety of
earwigs. The picture will open out if clicked on.

Friday again and now we are really rushing towards
Christmas! The time for photography has once more been limited this week.
Although I have seen both the green woodpecker and the nuthatch again I have
not managed to photograph either.
The moths have been appearing
regularly but all of them I am sure have been the winter moth, and not the
most interesting, although I thought the one to the left quite prettily
marked.
The only other thing of
note was a trip to Broxted a nearby village with a friend to see some of the
lights that are up for Christmas, this particular garden was quite
spectacular and the window at the back of the garden was full of Christmas
dolls.

20th December, and almost the
shortest day. We can begin to look forward to more hours of light. The
mornings at present seem very dark and I must admit a certain reluctance to
get out of bed. Last night as we came home from choir practice, something I
do not usually attend, there was a winter moth with its wings up so I took
advantage of taking a different angle.

Friday, 26th December, recovering from Christmas and
preparing for the rest of the family who will be joining us today. I received a wonderful
Christmas present on returning from midnight communion at 1.30 p.m. Christmas
morning. On the wall just below the drainpipe was a moth that I had not seen
before. Thinking that I would probably not be able to get a decent I decided
to try but as I was preparing to climb the steps it decided to fly gently
down and land almost at my feet on the back door so I was able to obtain a
clear picture. The moth is a Mottled Umber Erannis defoliaria.
